Many people are searching. There is a need within you to search out the reason that you are here on earth. How did you get here? Look at yourself... You are a very complicated person. Your mind, your body and your spirit are alive. You have feelings and desires. You think and respond to your environment as you will. You are not a thing. You are a living person and you are a mystery. You are also a created individual. You have a Father. No, I’m not talking about the one here on earth. I’m taking about the One who created everything that exists, the One who formed you while you were still in your mother’s womb. He is God.
The subject about God is a never ending one. This little article can never answer all the questions you have. I have been studying about God for 20 years and I am still learning. Maybe we can get you started and then help you later if you have more questions. The study about God humbles you and it expands your mind. The person who makes it his hearts’ desire to know God has a larger view of life then the one who simply walks through life without knowing their true origins. In order to study about God we must go to the book He wrote. You have probably heard of it. It’s called the bible. God didn’t actually write it with His own hand. He used men who knew Him well to do it. Here is what those men say; "All scripture is God-breathed" (2 Timothy 3:16) and, "No prophecy of Scripture came about by its own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1: 20-21). Scripture refers to the holy writings of the bible and the men who wrote it make it clear that they were not the authors but more or less scribes, writing on behalf of God Himself. You can find a bible at any book store. It is the book that has sold more copies that any other book in history. The word bible simply means, The Book.
What I’m going to do now is make a statement about God which will blow your mind and then back it up with a verse from the bible. The bible is arranged so you can read it easily and locate portions in it that you want to study or casually read. There are books, chapters and verses. I will refer to these so you can look them up later for yourself.
Ok, let’s get started...
God is eternal and immortal
He had no beginning nor will he
ever end. He can never be destroyed.
"Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, The Lord, is the Rock eternal." Isaiah 26:4
"Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and
glory for ever and ever. Amen." 1 Timothy 1:17
"Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you
are God." Psalm 90:2
God is a miraculous creator
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1
"Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image.’" Genesis 1:26
God is almighty
...meaning that He is the most powerful being that exists.
"When Abraham was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, "’I am God Almighty, walk before
me and be blameless.’" Genesis 17:1
God is a jealous God
"Do not worship any other god, for the Lord whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God." Exodus 34:14
God is gracious and compassionate
"Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name,
the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The Lord, the Lord,
the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and
faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands and forgiving wickedness, rebellion
and sin." Exodus 34:5-6
God is your God and Father
"I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people." Leviticus 26:12
"I will be a Father to you and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." 2 Corinthians 6:18
God is not a man as in human
"God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?" Numbers 23:19
God is merciful
"For the Lord your God is
a merciful God: he will not abandon you or destroy you or forget the covenant
with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath." Deuteronomy 4:31
God is faithful
"Know therefore that the
Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a
thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments." Deuteronomy 7:9
He is the God of all Gods
"For the Lord
your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and
awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of
the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and
clothing." Deuteronomy 10:17-18
God is perfect
"As for God, his way is
perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all those who
take refuge in him." 2 Samuel 22:31
God is forgiving
"But your
are a forgiving God." Nehemiah 9:17b
"If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from
all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
God is Spirit
"God is spirit and his worshippers
must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24
God is a God of order and peace
"For
God is not a God of disorder but a god of peace." 1 Corinthians 14:33
God cannot be tempted by evil
"When tempted, no one should say that God is tempting me, for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor
does he tempt anyone." James 1:13
God is Light
"This is the message that we have
heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at
all." 1 John 1:5
God is love
"And we know and rely on the love
God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him." 1 John 4:16
There is something exceedingly important about knowing God. The most phenomenal study for expanding the mind is the knowledge of the Creator. The message that the bible gives is also healing to the soul. There is so much more to know about him, his names (he has many) his nature, the things that he has done and is doing today and his great wisdom which can give direction and solutions to any problem. I encourage you to study further. I’ve only touched the surface of what there is to know about him. As it says in Job 36: 22-26, "God is exalted in his power. Who is a teacher like him? Who has prescribed his ways for him or said to him "You have done wrong?" Remember to extol his work, which men have praised in song. All mankind has seen it; men gaze on it from afar. How great is God, beyond our understanding! The number of his years is passed finding out."
